15. – 20. July 2018 – Trip to Czech Republic with Liz and Paul
Left home and rode to Frymburk via Aschach an der Donau (where we stopped for lunch). About 10km before Frymburk we got into a thunderstorm with heavy rain and got absolutely drenched. Had to put all our motorbike clothes onto the balcony to dry in the sun when we got to the hotel in Frymburk. We stayed at the Wellness Hotel Frymburk, which was quite nice. The next day we rode from Frymburk to Prague. About two thirds of the way we got into another thunderstorm, this time it went on until we got to Prague. It was torrential. For a short while we sheltered in a bus stop. Flooding on the roads and wet cobbled streets in Prague made for interesting riding. I must say, I didn’t care much for it. We stayed at Hotel Pod Lipkami, Praha 5-Smichov. It was embarassing, as we had to drape all our wet motorbike clothes over radiators etc. The room looked a mess. Luckily the next day it had brightened up and we made a e-scooter tour around the old town of Prague. The two Lizzies even found a glutenfree cake shop. We had dinner in a vegan restaurant in the evening (interesting !). Next day we rode from Prague to the Wellness Hotel Diamant in Hluboka nad Vltavou (near Ceske Budejovice) – thank God the sun was shining. The hotel was very nice and had very good food. The next day we rode to Cesky Krumlov to visit the old town and we also did a segway tour, which was fun. The rest of the day, Geoff and Paul went for a ride in the country-side, whilst the two Lizzies went sightseeing, shopping and eating. Bliss ! The next day was our ride home – quite a long ride – via Wullowitz border, Freistadt, Traun, Lambach and Gmunden.
Great trip, but with no rain it would have been even better !
