26.9.2018 – Left from home and rode via Bischofshofen to the beginning of the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse (High Alpine Road). We had a voucher from the ÖAMTC for the toll fee. Lots of photo stops on the way up. Then we got to Fuschertörl on the top and stopped for a snack. We shared an ‘Almjause’. Then we rode carefully up the cobbledsteep road to Bikers Point and Edelweißspitze at 2571 m. Down to Heiligenblut and overnight at Pension Lagler. We paid Euro 80.00 including tourist tax. Dinner at Kirchenwirt – very good.
27.9.2018 – Another beautiful day. Breakfast was OK. Mrs. Lagler was big into giant slalom and has lots of trophies. It was very quiet at night. After an early breakfast we were at 09:25 already on the way to Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe (11 degrees). Toll fee today only Euro 12.00 each instead of Euro 26.00 (discount for second day). It was icy in the tunnels. I almost ran out of fuel coming down, but made it with 0.5 litres to the petrol station. Route home was via Zell am See, Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, Maria Alm, Dienten. We stopped for lunch at Mittereggalm (1400m) Then home via Eben, St. Michael, Annaberg and Gosau. This was our first ride to Grossglockner, but surely not the last one. Great road – I love the bends !
