I recently went on an amazing once in a lifetime workshop with Geoff and Liz Tompkinson in Istanbul to learn from the master of timelapse himself vimeo.com/gtimage It was a thoroughly enjoyable time and the day was divided into theory and practical sessions. There is so much to learn with regards to capturing shots, using external devices like Emotimo and Bulb Rampers like Promote Control, sliders like Rhino Camera Gear. The post production in itself was particularly enlightening especially with regards to importing multiple RAW layers and Proxies, level stepping, control frames, levels, warp stabiliser and manual stabilisation, one step bird removal and a whole host of other important features. It was a brilliant learning curve and has helped me to become fluent with After Effects and Da Vinci Resolve.
Geoff and his very pleasant wife Liz arranged all the accommodation and some pretty great nights out and special access through their wonderful guide Dr. Ali Tamer Ürüm to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia tourguideinistanbul.com/
This is a small compilation of some of the shots we captured out there, please pardon any glitches – I am far from Geoff’s calibre at the moment, he really does make it look easy and takes a lot of hard work and perfection. We did have a go at hyperlapse and used a top secret device to do it and I have all the resources and knowledge now to do something in the future. It was important for me to understand all the concepts of making a timelapse and I will continue to use my iPhone vimeo.com/110481788 for many shots and now I have the skills to make those timelapses that I was yearning to do for all these years.
I made lots of friends from all over the world and it was good to share all our skills with people with the same interests. I thoroughly recommend these workshops for anyone who wish to take their work to another level or simply have a great time with their camera, see some great places or make new friends both amateur and professional.
